Career Highlights: CEO and Managing Consultant for Jacobson, Betts & Company Reward Strategies since 1983. He consults in compensation systems and productivity-improvement programs. Author of JOBMEASTM , a technical system for organizations to achieve equity and competitiveness in pay practices. Prior to 1983, Vance was a manager for a national CPA firm, and a Human Resources Manager for Union Pacific Railroad. After receiving his Bachelor’s degree, Vance served in the Army where he was awarded the Bronze Star in Vietnam.
Track and Field Highlights:
Began competing in Master’s in 1998 at age 50. Very first meet was the Nike World Masters Games where he got his first taste of ‘medal’ and the hook was set. Since then, here are my best memories from competition:
2000 – Nationals: Eugene – Gold, 4×100, Silver, 4×400.
2001 – Nationals: Bronze – Pentathlon, Gold – 4×100 and met Charles Allie
2003 – Nationals: Bronze – Pentathlon and a gnarly hamstring pull the next day. Pan Pacific Games – Gold – 200, LJ
2004 – 4×100 record at the Hayward Classic (critiqued by my sprinter daughter)
2005 – Indoor Nationals: Gold – LJ, Bronze – HJ. My first National Championship in an individual event. Outdoor Nationals: Silver -Pentathlon, Bronze – LJ, Gold – 4×100, 4×400
2006 – National’s – Decathlon: Silver. Indoor Nationals: Bronze – PV
2008 – Outdoor Nationals: 5 medals, Silver – Pentathlon, Bronze – HJ & 300H 2009 –Decathlon Championships: Silver, Canadian Outdoor Nationals: Gold – 200, total 6 medals
2010 – WMA World Indoor Championships: Gold, 4×200, 5th – 60M, 200M Outdoor Nationals: Bronze – Pentathlon, Silver – 300H
